There are a few ways of marketing on the TikTok platform which include in-feed ads, brand takeovers, branded hashtag challenges, branded effects.

In-feed Ads

In-feed ads allow a lot of room for creativity, as part of a TikTok marketing plan, as they are the standard ad format that TikTok uses. They allow users to embed their video ads to play on their target audiences ‘for you’ page. It allows viewers/users of TikTok to like, share, follow and shoot videos with the same sound that has been used in the advert, which therefore promotes a product or brand even more as videos are being posted with the same sound and ending up on influencers pages and reaching more people.

Brand Takeovers

Brand takeover ads appear as soon as a user opens up the app. The video can be linked to a brand’s landing page or a hashtag challenge they have created. Branded takeover ads are expensive but they are effective and do gain audiences attention. They also eliminate competition as only one branded ad is used per day so users of TikTok will see only the brand’s ad when they open the app for a whole 24 hours.

Branded Hashtag

The branded hashtag challenges build awareness for a brand mainly through user generated content, they do this by asking people to perform a certain task and tag them using a specific hashtag. If a user clicks on the hashtag they are directed to the branded landing page. This type of ad is a fun and creative way to express personality as well as promoting a brand. It also creates a valuable relationship between the brand and the audiences.

Branded Effects

Branded effects are similar to what is on snapchat, brands create or purchase an effect that users can use as a filter/overlay on their face in their videos. These allow brands to create effects with their own brand logos and other branding elements. They are also created for encouraging audience participation as it is fun for the users and consequently benefits the brand.
